Carpet binding width

Just watched the carpet binding video. Was wondering what the width was you were using? I see 1-1/4" and 3/4" for sale. I am thinking wider would be better. If it's too long, you won't see it on the underside, but too short and you are screwed.

I don’t bind carpet but I do a lot of binding with lighter fabrics with 1” gross grain, believe me you want the 1 1/4”.... 3/4” would be a struggle

Depends on the carpet weight. 14 oz aquasmurf (turf) you can get away with a 1", 20 -24 oz you will need 1 1/4. Some bass boats, Ranger for one will have a binder on the floor carpet. OIf it's rubber backed you really need to get away from the edge, or it will just pop off, the rubber backing isn't that strong. Scrim and snap in, 3/4 to an inch will work.

I would go with the 1 - 1/4 single fold binding. If you dont like how much excess is on the back side you can easily trim it off after your done sewing.

@Roothawg ,

Wider is always better for the very reason John says.
