Hello, I've been using my T50 pneumatic gun when I needed to do stapling. But those staples kind of big/fat and smallest I have is 1/4 penetration. With project I am working now, I need to staple into thin cardboard. I need thinner staples and looks like 1/8 deep. I found those staples, but not sure...
@TManning74 You can get upholstery leather from eBay for $100/hyde. Not that much more expensive comparing to vinyl. Don't know, but me personally (and I am DIY - not for business) - I like working with leather much much better. I ordered sample of "NappaTek" from Relicate and was really ...
I will add that "hand stitching" is actually easiest part of this. Making template and marking where stitches will go - thats most important part. And which one you going to do? Baseball stitch? This is what I was doing. Or "euro"? Looks simpler to me. And. If you go with leather...
@WesleyBurt , I think you are going to have to You Tube for videos on that topic. I hope they are a really good friend because not only are you investing over 08 hours of time at a minimum you could be looking at a couple of redos on that wheel. Hehe. Right. I think 8hr of videos. And 15-20hr for f...
With this kind of budget you can't really go wrong on machine. Ideally - try it out.
I am NOT professional. But for myself I settled on Consew 206 and love it.
Part will interchange (some) with 545. I had newer one (1245 in white - square body) - liked it a lot. But then I moved to Consew for no specific reason. Singer 111 style machines have tons of different accessories, feet ,etc available. Not so much with PFAFF
After I sew the two pieces together and before I do any of my top stitching I go back and remove my sew foam from the seam allowance area. You have to be very careful when you do it so that you don't get to close to your seam and cut any of the thread. It takes a little more time to do this, but it...
I asked same question here: https://www.theupholsteryforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=3941 I've seen some lseats covers and they look horrible. Those french seams look like 3 year old did them. $2k should be a decent product IMO, but who knows. I know today I can get same LX interior (in my post ab...
I did paint seats in E34 BMW before. I did lot's of research and did it all with good materials, prep work , etc. And my seats were in better shape (no rips). Seats were taken out, partially disassembled, cleaned, etc, etc. After that I decided I want to learn how to do upholstery. Last sentence is ...
I watched John's video and was surprised! It's Seiko made in Japan at least for the machine which looks like Consew 206RB So, Seiko used to make Consew machines (and their own identical ones) but then Consew moved production to China. NC is just a brand. I would buy this machine without hesitation o...
The stuff Relicate is selling is a high quality vinyl with a micro fiber backing that also imitates leather. This IS stuff I was referring to when I posted originally. Polyurethane face, felt-like backing. They just started carrying it, did you see this stuff in person? Before I was searching and c...
Reviving this topic. I was talking about material which Relicate just emailed about recently. They carry it now in black, I ordered sample, curious to see what it is. Again, I am just hobbyist but like to know about stuff. Personally (and not sure why) - I LOVE working with leather. I did whole inte...
I am hobbyist and this steamer works for me:
Looks good! Is it leather or vinyl?
Maybe a touch off topic, but how i typically use these type staplers is for setting/marking darts on a pattern. Pinch your patterning media so it lays the way you want, then you pop a couple staples at the bottom of the dart to hold it...now you have both hands free to mark it accurately. Dontmean ...
They don't do installing. But yes, patterning, prepping and cutting is biggest time. even if I did 2 interiors it would be much cheaper because I don't have to cut/clean old parts twice. Speaking of which, do you use factory align marks? On this car I found them matching and everywhere so I didn't b...
I am not a pro but do the same. I set machine for smaller stitches like 1/8 for everything and set for almost max for top-stitching. With those machines stitch size get's smaller with material thickness. So, I get probably 5mm top stitches
@John Thanks!
I am still trying to understand how is it possible for companies to sell full set of leather covers (2 rows) for $750 shipped.
I paid $330 for ebay leather + Foam + thread, probably $400 total in supplies.
@BigRig
I am in USA. Most sewing supplies I get from Albrights, thread from thethreadexchange.
I would take the tape off. Your machine does not need to be protected. It is built to take ten times the punishment you are going to give it for years. My concern is the bottom layer of material needs to slide freely so the feed dog can move it at the same speed as the top layer. If you add the fri...
